Each year, Acadian Ambulance recognizes exceptional medics for their tireless work ethic and dedication to their jobs. James Adams, a Lewisville resident, was recently honored as Acadian’s 2013 Paramedic of the Year.

Hawaiian Falls will offer free admission to all active duty military personnel at any of five Texas waterparks, including parks in Garland, The Colony, Mansfield, Roanoke and Waco, from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2013, the American Cancer Society will celebrate 100 years of saving lives and creating more birthdays. To mark this milestone, the Society is asking North Texans to make noise with them to help finish the fight against cancer.

Sandy Lake Amusement Park will host the 4th Annual Home School Family Day on May 23, 2013. The popular North Dallas fun spot will welcome home school families on an exclusive basis from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

DanIel Pendergraft graduated from Allen HS in 2009. He has been attending Belmont in Nashville, Tenn., for the last four years. He will graduate in December. He is the keyboard player in Williams & Company. They are raising funds to bring their band to Texas. Here is some info about them.

On Saturday, May 11, Plano's Haggard Park was filled with fun for all ages at "Cruisin' in the Park" -- a Plano Rotary Club event supported by The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation Inc. and the Historic Downtown Plano Association to celebrate Plano and National Historic Preservation Month.

The 2012-2013 Planoette year came to an official end with the Senior Mother Daughter Tea at Glen Eagles Country Club on May 5. 

The Mesquite Rotary Club hosted its annual Scholarship Recognition and Awards Luncheons at the Dallas Athletic Club on April 30 and May 7. At the events, the top ten candidates for graduation in the Class of 2013 from each Mesquite ISD high school, Sunnyvale High School, and Dallas Christian School were honored, and scholarship awards of $1,250 each were presented to students from each of these schools. Also, a $1,000 scholarship went to a student from the Mesquite Academy, and two students from the Eastfield College Rotaract Club received $750 scholarships. This investment by the club in the future of these deserving area scholars totaled $11,250.

With unseasonably cool temperatures, Old Man Winter has made unwelcome rounds in Dallas.  However, he couldn’t prevent residents and employees of Highland Springs retirement community from playing their golf rounds for a worthy cause.

Just in time for Memorial Day, the Frontiers of Flight Museum will host a special presentation by photographer/author Thomas Sanders on Saturday, May 25, at 1 p.m., featuring his latest book titled “The Last Good War: The Faces and Voices of WWII.” 

This weekend, varsity members of the Plano West Wolves football team assisted with the Seven Loaves Food Pantry Derby Day at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. The event was organized by the St. Andrew UMC Seven Loaves Food Pantry to help raise money for the pantry, which is a critical component to help fight hunger here in Collin County. It also included both a 5K and Family 1K Fun runs and carnival.

The Samaritan Inn, located in McKinney, Texas, is the largest residential homeless program in Collin County. But it is not large enough to meet the increasing trend of homelessness in our area.

U.S. Marine Corps Second Lieutenant Jacob Aaron Coffey, son of David and Christy Coffey, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD on May 24, 2013, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.  

Saturday, May 11 to Sunday, May 19, Collin Creek Mall will be all aflutter when the Butterfly Festival, sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Greater Plano, returns to the shopping center. Visitors are able to stroll through the temporary butterfly habitat, encountering the butterflies and enjoying up-close experiences with the delicate creatures.

Beginning Wednesday, May 1, 2013, The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation Inc. will present “Rural Texas Women at Work, 1930–1960,” an exhibition sponsored by Texas A&M University, Texas Agricultural Extension Service, Arts Council of Brazos Valley and produced by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The exhibit will be on display at the Interurban Railway Museum in historic downtown Plano.

Faith Lutheran School in Plano, Texas will be conducting an open house on Sunday, May 19 at 4 p.m.
