Two trap locations set overnight Tuesday, April 30, captured mosquitoes that tested positive for the presence of West Nile Virus. Locations were the 800 block of College Street and the 1700 block of South Edmond (behind Renaissance Village Retirement Center). Follow-up traps set overnight Wednesday did not capture enough mosquitoes for accurate testing.

Thirteen North Central Texas College athletes have been named academic all-conference for their exceptional work both on the field or court and also in the classroom.

On April 27, more than 200 CVS Caremark colleagues from across Dallas/Fort Worth teamed up to clean up Elm Fork in an effort to protect the state's shorelines and waterways.

Visitors of all ages are invited to participate in the grand opening of a new Pollinator Garden, located near the Cicada Pavilion at LLELA. The Pollinator Garden provides a great opportunity to view North Texas prairie grasses and wildflowers. The garden will also give a boost to our native pollinators by encouraging the plants they depend on. Populations of bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects are in steep decline across the United States due to loss of habitat, overuse of insecticides and other environmental issues. Without these often unappreciated creatures, about 75 percent of our flowering plants and crops would not develop fruit or seeds. Though it is new, the garden is already full of life. A variety of butterflies have been documented, including swallowtails, monarchs, queens, sulphurs, pearl crescents, buckeyes, emperors, question marks, red admirals, fritillaries and others. Along with the butterflies and bees, the garden has been buzzing with volunteer activity, as the project is almost entirely a volunteer effort, led by Master Gardener Rosemary Carrizales. LLELA is grateful to the dedicated volunteers who have made the Pollinator Garden a reality.

Fire fighters will be out on the streets of the Lewisville asking motorists to help "Fill the Boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association now through Saturday. Every dollar that passing motorists can pitch into the fire fighters' boots helps Local 3606 fire fighters provide medical treatment and support services to individuals and their families living with neuromuscular diseases in the Lewisville area.

Congressman Michael C. Burgess (TX-26) has announced the winner of the 11th annual 26th Congressional District art competition, "An Artistic Discovery," hosted by the Greater Denton Arts Council at the Center for the Visual Arts. Emily Cox, a sophomore at Lake Dallas High School and student of Vicky Bailey, won the Grand Prize with her chalk and charcoal self-portrait entitled "Studious."

The North Central Texas College Flower Mound campus hosted a ribbon cutting and check signing on April 19 to celebrate the new $2 million Cisco lab.

Denton County Republican assembly meeting

The Denton County Commissioners Court selected Lewisville Police Department officer Jesse Flores to serve as constable for Precinct One on Tuesday. Flores replaces Constable Jim Dotson, who passed away in December. He was re-elected in November. Flores is the first Hispanic constable in Denton County history.

Early voting for the May 11 municipal election begins Monday.

During Tuesday's chamber luncheon, members were updated on the city's upcoming vision 2025 plan.
