Carter, Knowles tabbed as all-stars

Two Lady Bobcats will join several local players for the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Softball game next month.

The event, set for July 10 at the Workman Complex in Arlington, will feature Celina's Shelby Carter and Lindsie Knowles on the East team for the Class 3A-2A-1A game.

The 4:30 p.m. game will feature the state's top seniors. The Class 5A-4A game is slated for 7 p.m.

Leopards name new track coach

When Lovejoy track and field begins the 2013 campaign, it will do so with a new head coach.

That will be Stefani Langehennig, who came aboard as an assistant in February. In the wake of former head coach Greg Christensen's decision to step down and focus more on Lovejoy's cross country teams, of which he is also head coach, Langehennig will head up Leopards track.

Langehennig's experience prior to joining the Lovejoy staff includes coaching stops at Tomball and Hereford, helming both the cross country and track teams at the latter.

Langehennig competed in college track and cross country at Texas and is a high-level duathlete.

Taylor nabs another IFL honor

For the second straight week, Allen Wranglers receiver Ramonce Taylor has received an IFL Player of the Week award.

Claiming Special Teams honors in Week 14, Taylor was named IFL Offensive Player of the Week last Wednesday. Taylor continued his torrid special teams pace, scoring on a kickoff for the third straight week, but the Longhorns' product also had seven catches for 116 yards and four touchdowns.

"Fans know Ramonce from his time on the National Championship Texas team and they know what a special player he is," said Dixie Wooten, Allen offensive coordinator. "Ramonce is finally comfortable playing the indoor game and it has really shown the past three or four games."

Tripucka tops in Texas

After a recent trip to the Sailer/NIKE Nationals in Las Vegas, Allen senior Shane Tripucka has ascended to the No. 1 Class of 2013 punter in the state according to Chris Sailer Kicking.

Tripucka, who has moved from a 4-star to 4.5-star prospect, is ranked No. 18 nationally.

"Shane is a very talented punter," Sailer said. "He is big, tall, strong, athletic and has the perfect frame for a college punter. He's shown outstanding improvement from camp to camp and I expect big things from Shane this summer."

That statement proved prophetic as Tripucka is not only tops in Texas, he was the tops at Texas.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder was named the top punter at the Longhorns' camp Monday. Tripucka is also slated to be in college kick days at Baylor, Boston College, LSU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Leopards in Lone Star Cup mix

Lovejoy is still very much in the running for a third consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup.

With one publication cycle left in the annual statewide competition, the Leopards rank third among Class 3A schools with 56 points. They trail Argyle (68) and Abilene Wylie (64).

Each year, the UIL rewards one school from each classification the Lone Star Cup, which comes with a trophy and $1,000 scholarship. The last of the competition's six publication cycles will be held June 15, tabulating performance in academics, one-act play, baseball and softball.

Standings will be finalized July 1.

Dunlap named all-state

Allen junior Taylor Dunlap enjoyed plenty of success during her 2012 campaign with the Lady Eagles track and field team.

She added all-state to her stellar year after being named so by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Dunlap is the lone recipient from District 8-5A to earn the honor, capping a season in which she qualified for the Class 5A Track and Field State Championships for the first time. Competing in the 400-meter dash, Dunlap placed seventh after taking second at the Region I-5A Meet.

Possessing the school record in the 400, Dunlap broke her program-best mark three times in 2012.
