Southlake's Department of Public Safety is holding a Safety Fair and the public is invited to attend, according to local law enforcement officials.

"This safety fair is open to Southlake residents and anyone else interested in having a fun, hands-on learning experience," said Kim Leach, a department of public safety spokeperson. "So we want our citizens to mark their calendars and be ready to particate. Other organizations, such as Baylor Health, will also be participating and giving out free health and safety information and give-aways."

The Safety Fair will be held at Bob Jones Park from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

"It will be an educational and fun time for kids and adults alike," Leach said. "Kids will get to check out Southlake fire engines and police vehicles and learn about the safety equipment firefighters and officers' use every day. Fingerprint ID kits will be available for parents who want to maintain identifying information on their children." (*Bob Jones Park is located at 3901 N. White Chapel Road)

Attendees will also learn about crime prevention and fire safety education. They will have a chance to visit with DPS volunteer groups and learn how they too can get involved with public safety in Southlake. Everyone will receive valuable emergency preparedness information including severe weather tips.

"There will be lots of free stuff for the kids and mom and dad too including safety gun locks and more," Leach said. "The Southlake Safety Fair promises to be a fun time for families and kids and educational too! We hope you will plan to join us!"

Also, Leach added that the Southlake DPS is pleased to announce the 2012 CERT Class. CERT, which is short for Community Emergency Response Team, is an eight-week course designed to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Classes begin on Thursday April 12, 2012 and meet every Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through the end of May.
