Allen adds three more to signing class
BY Kevin Hageland, khageland@acnpapers.com
Allen had a whopping 16 football players sign with colleges last Wednesday morning during a school-wide celebration at the Eagles' indoor facility.
The balloons and cake are now gone, but the celebration hasn't stopped as Brandon Franklin (Southwest Baptist), Chris Hudson (Southern Nazarene) and Sean McFarland have since inked deals to play at the next level.
Those signings bring Allen's college football class up to 19.
Franklin, a second team all-district selection at defensive end in 2011, is headed to Bolivar, Mo. He won't be the only for Eagle there as Brandyn Bolling had already signed with the Bearcats.
"They are excited to have two bookends from Allen," Fleener said. "And Brandon will be a dynamic defensive end for Southwest Baptist."
A little further back in the defense will be Hudson, a first-team all-district middle linebacker that is headed to Bethany, Okla.
"Chris Hudson plays downhill and full speed," Fleener said. "He will bring a physical presence to Southern Nazarene's defense and we are excited to watch him play in the Great American Conference."
McFarland didn't see as much playing time as Franklin and Hudson, but did nab an honorable mention all-district nod for his contributions at special teams and linebacker.
He will stay in state, heading to Seguin.
"Sean will impress everyone at Texas Lutheran with his relentless style of play and his willingness to do whatever the team needs him to do," Fleener said. "Sean was an outstanding special teams player and a linebacker that can play sideline to sideline. Texas Lutheran has a coaching staff built on class and character, and they are getting a player that holds himself to the same standards."
And by providing some extra time, these schools may pick up some extra wins.
"These three are both physically and mentally ready to play at a high level for these schools," Fleener said.
Tripucka achieves national ranking
Though Signing Day 2013 is still nearly a year away, Allen junior punter/kicker Shane Tripucka looks well on his way to being part of that class.
The Eagles starting punter in 2011 earned a No. 18 national ranking and No. 2 state rank from the Chris Sailer Kicking Company last month by participating in a national competition in Las Vegas. More than 250 punters and kickers took part with 118 punters from the Class of 2013 alone.
"Shane has the potential to be an outstanding punter," the Chris Sailer review read. "He is big, tall, strong, athletic and has the perfect frame for a college punter. With hard work, he could be a very good one. Keep a close eye on him."

" Congats to the Allen players and coaching staff. Sounds like they are REALLY committed to developing young men of character and preparing them for the future. 19 young athletes attending college is very impressive! There are some other schools in this district of comparable enrollment that can learn alot from this staff regarding player development and commitment. Well done Allen! "
