At the end of this month, the Carroll ISD is having a career fair that's a little unusual.
The Carroll ISD Special Education Department is hosting their annual College and Career Transition Expo on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The expo will be held at Carroll Senior High School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Representatives from about 17 trade schools and colleges will be at the career fair and it is open for anyone to attend, Rath said.
"We have students come from all over the Metroplex," Rath said. "It's open and free to the public and we want to encourage as many people to come out as we possibly can."
This program will help high school students with learning differences learn about colleges, application process, career opportunities, department of disabilities services and transition needs when pursuing post secondary education, Rath said.
The program's guest speaker will be Ron Venable, M.A. Director, Office of Disability Accommodation University of North Texas. Carroll ISD counselors and diagnosticians will also be available to meet with students and parents during the event.
"Ron will talk about leaving the world of high school and getting your career started in the real world," Rath said. "In high school, students with special needs have the advantage of people doing all these things for them but, when they get to a college, trade school or a job after high school, the world isn't always so accommodating. So we bring in speakers like Ron Venable who will teach them how to be more proactive and get the help they need to be successful in a trade school, two-year or four-year college."
For a list of colleges and career/ trade schools participating in the expo or if you have any questions, contact Rath at 817-949-8400.
