Student Notes: Dunn earns Dresser scholarship
Submitted Report
Dresser, Inc., a leader in providing highly-engineered infrastructure products for the global energy industry, has awarded a four-year scholarship to Kaitlin K. Dunn, a 2009 graduate of Southlake Carroll Senior High School. Her scholarship is one of two awarded by the company as part of its annual scholarship program for children of Dresser employees.
Kaitlin, the daughter of Sandra and Harvey Dunn of Southlake, is a member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. She earned an academic excellence award and was captain of her select soccer team. Dunn graduated seventh in her class of 600 students and plans to major in chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Her father, Harvey Dunn, is chief intellectual property counsel for Dresser. Each year Dallas-based Dresser awards two scholarships that are open to high school seniors who are sons or daughters of U.S.-based employees. Applicants must meet participation requirements specified by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) by taking a preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in their junior year. Scholarship winners are candidates judged by NMSC to have the strongest combination of academic and extracurricular attainments and potential for future success.
The University of Kansas’ Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society initiated 116 members May 16. Election to Phi Beta Kappa recognizes a student’s high academic achievement while pursuing a broad and substantive liberal arts curriculum. To be eligible for consideration for membership, students must have senior class status and a minimum grade-point average of 3.65 on a 4.0 scale.
Laine Johnson, daughter of Mark and Nancy Johnson, a senior of Southlake was inducted.
